Velu Thampi Dalawa

  • Born on 06 May 1765 at kalkulam, Nagercoil in Tamilnadu
  • Original Name: Velayudhan Chempakaraman Thampi
  • In 1802 appointed as Dalawa of Travancore by Avittam Thirunal Balaramavarma.
  • In 1809 January 11 he made his famous proclamation known as ‘Kundara Vilambaram‘ at Kundara in Kollam to fight against British.
  • He started Hajoor Kacheri (Secretariat) at Kollam
  • He died on 1809  at a Bhagavathy Temple in ‘Mannadi‘ near ‘Adoor‘.
  • Ummini Thambi took the post Dalawa after his death.
  • In memory of the courage of Velu Thampi Dalawa, Kerala Govt Instituted a memorial, museum, research center, park and a statue at Mannadi  near Adoor.
  • Another statue infront of Kerala secretariat.
